Held on Sunday 15th to Friday 20th July
This year the Ladies Highland Open saw an increase of 10 to a total of 95 taking part with 24 new, first time entries to the event and 18 club members making up the numbers. We had entries coming in from Elgin in the North to Banstead Downs in the South of England and Golf Du Lac Duc in France. Apart from Friday morning, we had a wonderful week of weather and the course was presented in fabulous condition for the week’s tournament.
L to R Caroline Henderson, Yvonne Watson, Katy Alexander, Carol Borthwick, Kay Knight, Diane McMenemie from the Green Park Hotel who sponsors our event.
In the scratch section there were 5 past champions highlighted in red below. Eilidh Watson, Champion in 2016 and 2017, was unable to defend her title due to work commitments. On the second Day of qualifying Louise Fraser and Laura Walker both scored a fantastic 4 under par 68, 1 over the course record held by Laura Campbell who scored 70, 2 under the par with a 2 shot penalty at the 1st for playing the wrong ball. All 3 girls were playing in the same match together. Louise Fraser holed her second shot at the 18th!! Well done Katy Alexander, Mollie O’Brain and Lauren Pirie, our junior member, who are 17yrs, 16yrs, and 15yrs respectively, who all qualified for the Scratch Matchplay.
Local numbers qualifying were Scratch: 5, Silver handicap: 3, Bronze handicap: 6, including Louise Kelly the 2017 bronze champion. Unfortunately, Louise was unsuccessful in retaining the title but did manage to make the final, losing to Yvonne Watson of Stockport GC. We had 2 other members who made the finals: Scratch Isla Moncrieff lost to Katy Alexander of Blairgowrie GC and Silver Handicap Janet McDonald lost to Carol Borthwick of Barberton GC.
Congratulations to all qualifiers, winners and everyone for coming to enjoy a wonderful week at Pitlochry.
